While everyone knows about the Loch Ness Monster, not as many know about a similar mythical creature that apparently lives within Okanagan Lake in Canada. The Ogopogo, from many accounts, resembles the Loch Ness Monster, leading many crypto-zoologists to theorize that the two creatures may be of the same species. One interesting link between the two creatures is that they both lie along the same latitude and resemble each other greatly.

Dinosaurs dominated Earth’s landscape for over 160 million years. By comparison mammals have only been prominent for 20 millions years and modern humans only appear on the world scene 200,000 years ago. 65 million years ago dinosaurs disappeared due to a combination of natural disasters and disease that resulted in starvation, but they all could not have just vanished could they? Some should have survived. According to many legends large dinosaurs still exist. Most of the legends are from remote, virtually unexplored areas of the world. Are these stories of prehistoric beasts just stories or are they rooted in fact? Before this question can be answered let’s explore a handful of these legends.

Cryptids are animals that many claim exist but are often thought of by science to be subjects of tall tales or local legends, but some of these legends have turned out to have a truth to them. For example, the giant panda was thought to be just a part of Chinese folklore until the western world received actual specimens in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The panda is not the only example, though. The mountain gorilla was also originally scoffed at by science. In fact, many discoveries have proven that in the inexact, so called pseudo-science of cryptozoology, that sometimes cryptozoologists can be right.

It is somewhat difficult and a bit troubling for some to live in a world where science can explain just about anything thrown at it. Science has such an accurate understanding of our environment and the world around us that it seems to easily explain anything that wonders into its path, but there have been discoveries that have baffled even the best scientific minds and perhaps provide evidence of alien life, new species, or other variety of the paranormal.

The Loch Ness Monster really needs no introduction. It is one of the most famous cryptids in the world and there is controversial evidence of sightings dating back to the 7th century, but Nessie’s popularity didn’t really take off until the early 1930s after George Spicer and his wife saw “a most extraordinary form of animal” and an extraordinary photo was published.
