The mystery of crop circles is not a new one as generally assumed. Academic texts from the late 17th century have mentioning of this phenomenon and approximately 200 cases of these designs in fields have been reported before the “extraterrestrial boom” of the 1970s. Even though 90% of crop circle designs are detailed in areas around southern England, modern times have seen reports of these field forms in 29 different countries all over the world. The various circle designs, straight lines, and complex glyphs have been found in multiple mediums of assorted crops including wheat, barley, canola, linseed, trees, maize, rye, and even rice paddies. Ice can even be a special substance for these formations. There are many details about crop circles though that the average person does not know about as they truly are a complex phenomenon with numerous elements.

Logistics

How exactly could these crop circles be created? Genuine crop circle formations are special in that the stems of the plants are bent rather than broken, meaning they can continue to grow after the incident especially in the cases where the stems are bent roughly six inches from the seed head. The plants appear to have undergone a short (so that they do not burn) but very intense burst of heat which softens the stem to the point were they start to droop down just above the ground then reharden into the new position without damage when the heat is removed. After a lot of research, scientists have found out that sound below 20 hertz (called infrasound) is capable of producing this effect. Other aspects of infrasound’s effects on plants links it to being the true source of crop circle creation as many farmers report steam coming from the ground at the site of a brand new design in their fields, and when high pressure infrasound is applied to plants it causes the water within them and the water in the water table under ground to evaporate since it is powerful enough to boil water within the stem of a plant in about a nanosecond. Since true crop circles also show evidence of changes in the water table, infrasound is one of the most popular explanations. To date, there have been just over 10,000 crop circles reported around the world.
Links to Electric and Magnetic Energies

Sound above the hearing range of humans (known as ultrasound) is also present in true crop circle locations. Many people report about the effects of both ultrasound and infrasound present in crop circles that could come from physical exposure to electric or magnetic energy. Since the human body is electro-magnetic and easily responds to forces that manipulate that type of energy, crop circles are known to mess with the biophysical rhythms of nearby humans. They can experience positive effects like heightened states of awareness and even healing—some people travel to any acknowledged genuine crop circle to have their body increase its natural healing powers to help with personal sicknesses. However, humans can also experience disorientation, dizziness, or nausea. Both the positive benefits and negative consequences of close and prolonged exposure to genuine crop circles can be easily explained by interaction of infrasound and microwaves with the human body as they can manipulate water within the body in addition to certain brain chemicals. Also, crop circles are occasionally accompanied by trilling sounds along a harmonic 5.2 kHz in frequency which could be a moment before or after the creation of the circle when the cause increases or decreases power to the device that makes the infrasounds for the crop circle designs. Even NASA has analyzed the taped incidents of these special sounds and officially dubbed them as artificial in origin to indicate that it is not a naturally made sound by any normal means.
Genuine Versis Hoax

Prior to 1989, hoaxes for crop circles were not a problem as no one really knew about them. These early circles were just brushed under the carpet. After the explosion of crop circle creation by random pranksters though, investigators of the phenomenon had to look more closely into them to find that there were huge differences between a real crop circle and a fake one.
-True crop circles are actually elliptical in shape instead of circular as would be achieved through a plank attached to a rope anchored to a center point. Also, the floors of the laid down plants tend to be swirled in perfect mathematical proportions according to the Golden Mean (that fundamental vortex that nature uses in seashells and galaxies) in a genuine crop circle—a difficult task for pranksters in the darkness of the night and only a few hours to work without being caught.
-Real circles have crisply defined edges, differing from the flattened crops with surgical precision as by a compass. Hoax circles tend to bear a resemblance to tufts of uncombed or greasy hair as the edges of the planks used sometimes waiver with the pressure applied.
-A key element that identifies a hoax circle is that the plants are crushed, bruised, and completely trampled. Real circles are bent in a way that leaves the plant alive and totally intact.

-On a microscopic level, genuine crop circles show a reorganization of the crystalline structure within the plant’s cells rather than mushed up plant cells of broken stems in a hoax formation.

Doug and Dave

The popular media did and continues to claim crop circles are mere hoaxes. The beginning of this crop circle marathon according to them began with two men called Doug Bower and Dave Chorley who were supposedly responsible for all the crop circle formations up to 1992. They clearly did not do their research for the crop circles throughout history. They began making simple circular shapes. Yet, after the newspapers and other media claimed that these plain shapes could easily be explained by natural phenomenons, the duo decided to move onto more complicated patterns which would not be overlooked. Later designs became even more complicated as they perfected their techniques and got more and more practice into the production of these fake crop circles that baffled the world. The hoax would have probably never been uncovered if it weren’t for Doug’s wife though. She had gotten suspicious of his late night disappearances and the increased mileage on their shared car. One night she confronted him, claiming that she believed he was having an affair. He finally revealed the truth to her about his part in the creation of the crop circles. After opening his mouth about the secret to his wife, both he and Dave then informed a British newspaper about the truth behind the mysterious field designs. This one act released the flood of people pouncing on the two of them and putting the idea that all crop circles were fake into the public consciousness. Anyway, the story of these two elderly men creating circles with simple tools (a four foot long plank attached to a rope that created circles eight feet in diameter) got a hole punched into it in 1998 when one of the men admitted to being guided by an unknown force, making people believe that perhaps extraterrestrials were involved in directly rather than directly as the non-hoax believers report.
