5 Homicidal Animals

5 Homicidal Animals

Every now and again we will hear a story about an animal attacking and killing someone. We assume that these are one off occurrences and that the animals that commit the act do so because they are put under extraordinary circumstances that cause a killer instinct to kick in. Animals that kill people often serve as inspiration for horror stories about animals that become serial killers. Jaws, Piranha, and Grizzly are films that weave tales of horror using animals that have gone homicidal. Most believe that the things depicted in these films are regulated to fiction, but the reality is that there are animals that have and still are committing murders.

Ancient Alchemy Signs and Symbols

Ancient Alchemy Signs and Symbols

The study of alchemy has been a time honored tradition of interested individuals for at least the past 2,500 years. The ancient practice focused primarily on trying to change base metals like iron or lead into gold and trying to discover an “elixir of life.” The practical aspects and techniques of alchemy actually became the foundation for what is now inorganic chemistry even though the identification of a method that turned other metals into gold or a liquid that allowed eternal life (at least extended longevity) were never found. However, it was also a type of philosophy unto itself whereby the practitioners were attempting to achieve a type of ultimate wisdom and improve their souls in the process of mystical scientific discoveries. A complex yet interconnected system of various philosophies and schools dedicated to these practices spans several thousand years and the entire globe as the Mesopotamians, Greco-Romans, ancient Egyptians, Persians, ancient Chinese, medieval Islamic peoples, and medieval Europeans all practiced a form of alchemy at some point in their history. Alchemists developed system of symbols for their work trying to achieve inner transformations through the philosophical and deeper spiritual meanings of these symbols. These designs became very important to the alchemists of medieval Europe as they needed to disguise their sciences from the very powerful and very intolerant Christian church who warred against them because they thought the ascension offered by alchemy was a way to achieve salvation outside of their chosen methodologies. Yet, the figures that are pictorial depictions have special meanings unto themselves for the entire study of alchemy.

The Amazing and Haunted Tower of London

The Amazing and Haunted Tower of London

One of the most popular tourist attractions in London, if not the most popular, is the Tower of London. The Tower of London, currently called Her Majesty’s Royal Palace and Fortress, was built in 1078 by William the Conqueror. Originally a palace, these days it is more known for being a prison, and due to that fact there are plenty of stories of ghosts who inhabit this building, hundreds of years after they died. The Tower of London is a place with many spirits and many stories.

Based on A True Story: The Exorcist

Based on A True Story: The Exorcist

There has yet to be a more popular and well-known horror movie as 1973’s The Exorcist. Movie patrons and critics alike praise the film and it is still considered to be one of the scariest movies ever made. The film and the book by the same name that the movie is based on appeal to a very primitive fear, a fear that has been exploited since the time of the poets Dante and Homer, the fear of death. More particularly, the fear of dying and going to hell. The Exorcists is based on a William Peter Blatty fiction novel, but the novel got its inspirations from a source that is based in reality, the exorcism of Robbie Mannheim.

The Scarf: A Ghost Story

The Scarf: A Ghost Story

It had been weeks since the accident, but it still felt fresh in my heart. As a collective, my boyfriend, his family, and myself had gone up to the high lake in honor of one of the last few glorious days of summer. It was so warm and bright. His parents had brought several outdoor cooking appliances to make a meal of hamburgers and hotdogs. We feasted. We laughed. The middle of the afternoon had brought a heavy wave of heat though. The air was so full of humidity and high temperatures that we could not resist one last swim in the chilly lake waters. We rented a small boat from the nearby marina and took turns climbing up the ladder and jumping off the back in attempt to splash anyone nearby. The fun could not last forever though. The sun started to set, and Shawn wanted to go for one more jump, one last dip. I climbed back onto the boat in attempt to coerce him back to shore with me. He did not listen.

The Ogopogo

The Ogopogo

While everyone knows about the Loch Ness Monster, not as many know about a similar mythical creature that apparently lives within Okanagan Lake in Canada. The Ogopogo, from many accounts, resembles the Loch Ness Monster, leading many crypto-zoologists to theorize that the two creatures may be of the same species. One interesting link between the two creatures is that they both lie along the same latitude and resemble each other greatly.

Flatwoods Monster

Flatwoods Monster

A tiny, remote area in central West Virginia, nestled in the Allegheny Mountains, was put on the map in 1952—five years after the Roswell, New Mexico UFO crash reports. Just outside the rural town of Flatwoods, West Virginia a small farm was the sight of another crash landed space craft. However, what really set this incident apart was the entity that had been piloting the ship. Encounters between the locals and this being have been put into modern legend even though it was thoroughly covered up and brushed off at the time of occurrence. However, recent investigations have pulled the out case out of the dusty, hidden files into the light of the public eye.

5 Celebrity Ghosts

5 Celebrity Ghosts

I truly believe that some celebrities are plagues upon this Earth. I feel sleazy just writing about them, but they truly do seem to be a plague that cannot be cured. In this day and age hard news gets trumped on CNN and BBC News so we can keep up with Lindsay Lohan or see where David and Victoria Beckham are shopping. Though I give props to Victoria for dropping her maiden name Spice, and traditionally taking her husband’s name. Many claim that some celebrities are such attention hounds that they refuse to go away even after death.

Spontaneous Combustion – Behind the Flames

Spontaneous Combustion – Behind the Flames

The idea of someone simply bursting into flames is a relatively old one. Stories abound about people who could control fire or merely act as a human spark for the radical element. Technically known as spontaneous human combustion (or SHC), it is the burning of a live human body without any external ignition source. Incidents of spontaneous human combustion from around the globe over the past three hundred years total over 200 in number. However, most of these occurrences were not thoroughly or scientifically processed properly and many of the claims are based totally on oral testimonies or hearsay alone which makes people outside of the supernatural belief realm doubt spontaneous human combustion exists at all. Diverging in the other direction though, some scientists believe that spontaneous human combustion might be the only credible paranormal happening once the appropriate investigation has been conducted on enough of these incidents.
